When you decide to purchase a printer, a lot of expectations come in that box alongside the printer. To amortize the purchase, you want a lot of people to use that unit. You also want it to scan properly with detail to reproduce as close to the original document as possible. Copies should be exact. And if you select the Xerox WorkCentre 6515 color laser multifunction printer, all of your expectations will be surpassed.
All of the printers that are rated to print thousands of pages every month are big. The WorkCentre 6515 is not the largest, but it is the heaviest. The specs say that the printer weighs 68 pounds and it may take at least two people to wrestle the printer out of the box and onto a table. Xerox has apps that can be accessed and controlled through the color touchscreen on the printer that measures around 5 inches. The “Login” icon on the top left is serious as Xerox is deep into the corporate print management, and it has more tracking than most of the other brands. Users can easily print without a login, but advanced functions or setting changes need authentication.
Xerox does not include scanning software so you can try Nuance’s PaperPort 14. The software can easily find the printer on the network and load Xerox support with no problem. All of the standard scanning controls are right up front in PaperPort. When you configure the scan-to-folder app to send scans to the PaperPort directory, they appear immediately. This will initiate scans from the network printer that takes only one trip; you can take the material to scan, you can tell the 6515 to send it to a predefined network directly, hit the button and then take the material back to your desk. You will see the results.
The output is crisp, fast and bright. A full-age color test prints show consistent color with minimal striping. Photos look better from this printer than any other brand, even on plain paper. The text is so sharp that it looks like it came from an offset press.
Companies are drawn to the Xerox printer because they need more control over the process than other businesses that buy less-advanced systems. The client print properties page is just one area where you can see the control and ease of configuration. It is easy to have a normal and secure print, a personal print that can be released when you enter a code and you can use an Earth Smart mode or a draft and watermark. You can just click the saved settings found in the drop-down menu, and you can choose what you need.
There are also document options under the Printer Properties; you can opt for four pages per sheet or more. You can opt for a booklet layout and a custom watermark. You can even adjust the colors for a single printed page.
Duplex printing and scanning works fast on this printer. Printing on both sides on some printers may make you nervous with all the shuffling sound, but with WorkCentre 6515, you do not have to worry about anything as it has quick and quiet duplex operations.
